MIN-SOK FESTIVAL
The 2007 Korean Min-Sok Cultural Festival will be held on Friday, May 25th, 1:00-5:30 p.m., at the main
San Francisco Library in downtown.  Riding on the popularity of Korean music, film, dance, and fashion
worldwide, this year’s theme is Hallyu or the “Korean Wave.”  For the past several years, the Hallyu
phenomenon has hit many parts of the world.

The 2007 Festival will feature lecturers, film, Korean contemporary music, and Korean food.  Speakers
include Kevin Kwon, Chief Executive Officer of KBS America; Richard Jun, Vice President of CJ
Entertainment America; Tom Larson, President of YA Entertainment.  The invited speakers will talk about
how the Hallyu popularity has affected the entertainment industry, and what it will take for the Hallyu
phenomenon to continue on to the next decade.

Special guests include the Honorable Bon-woo Koo, San Francisco Consul General of the Republic of
Korea; Suk-chan Lee, President, Korean-American Association of San Francisco and Greater Bay Area;
and Hong Chang, Deputy Director, San Francisco Regional Office of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The film, The Host, directed by one of Korea’s most sensational directors, Joon Ho Bong, is this year’s
megabuster film, anticipated to break the all-time attendance record in Korea and abroad.  The Host is
the first Korean monster movie to be shown nationally in the United States.  The film has received
numerous accolades, including the “Best Film” award at the recently held Asian Film Festival in Hong
Kong.  The film features English subtitles.

The Min-Sok Cultural Festival, the oldest Korean festival in San Francisco, is sponsored by Intercultural
Institute of California, Korean Center, Inc., Korean Cultural Center LA and the San Francisco Public
Library and is funded, in part, by the Grants for the Arts, San Francisco Hotel Tax Fund.  Admission to the
Festival is complimentary and is open to the general public.
